Karrawatta

Karrawatta is a boutique cellar door at 164 Greenhills Road in Meadows, about 45 to 60 minutes from Adelaide, set in a converted dairy between bushland and working vines. For dog owners the pitch is simple: an undercover paved courtyard for tastings, a big lawn for between-pour exercise, and staff who bring a water bowl without prompting. Open daily, 11am to 4pm.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered courtyard and patio tasting areas and across the grassed grounds. The rule to respect: leash on in the seating areas out of consideration for other guests, and save the free running for the lawn. Bring a lead you can secure near your table while you taste, and keep an eye on your dog around other groups. Mention you are bringing a dog when you book so your table lands in the courtyard zone.

The vibe

The wines are small batch and single vineyard, drawn from Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek fruit, with the Adelaide Hills chardonnay and pinot noir the usual standouts and a cool-climate shiraz for red drinkers. Tastings are structured rather than rushed, the team knows the vineyards cold, and the kitchen sends out platters built to match the flights. The scale is intimate: a farm setting, not a bus-tour cellar door.

Getting there and parking

Greenhills Road sits just outside the Meadows township, a straightforward drive south-east of the city. Parking is on site, including accessible parking and an accessible entrance to the cellar door.
