The Confessional

The Confessional is a small boutique cellar door on the corner of Kangarilla and Foggo Roads in McLaren Vale, pouring single-vineyard wines from La Curio and Pieri in an intimate, host-led setting. Tastings sit at a counter rather than a bar queue, and the mood is personal rather than commercial.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, on-lead throughout the visit out of consideration for other tasters. Hosts can bring water on request, but packing your own travel bowl removes the guesswork. The cellar door sits on a working corner with passing traffic, so settle and secure your dog as soon as you arrive rather than mid-tasting.

The vibe

The pour list runs across white, red and alternative varieties with Italian technique in the winemaking, and the winemakers themselves front many tastings. Cheese and dip platters cover the food side for a longer stay. Group tastings for six or more are hosted experiences that include barrel tasting and a winery tour, booked ahead with payment. It is a compact venue best suited to calm dogs that settle near the table.

Getting there

The cellar door is at the corner of Kangarilla Road and Foggo Road, McLaren Vale, with on-site parking. Opening hours are Friday to Monday, 11am to 4pm, closing Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, so check the day before a long weekend visit. A Monday tasting is the quietest option.
