Hastwell & Lightfoot

Hastwell and Lightfoot is a boutique, family-run estate at 301 Foggo Road, McLaren Flat, with a relaxed cellar door looking over the vines. It is a registered RSPCA Pet Stop, so this is a genuinely dog-set-up venue rather than a merely tolerant one, with dogs welcome across the outdoor areas.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in all the outdoor and alfresco areas, including the lawns and courtyard, while indoor seating stays for human guests. The expansive grassy lawns and covered alfresco spots suit a picnic-style tasting with the dog beside you. Water bowls and outdoor seating are provided, though a portable bowl and treats are still worth packing.

Max: RSPCA Pet Stop status tells you the welcome is real. The big lawns also make this one of the easier McLaren Flat stops for an antsy dog.

The vibe

The estate specialises in heat-loving Mediterranean varieties: fiano, vermentino, barbera and tempranillo. Gourmet grazing platters pair with a flight, and the Oak Room hosts live music and food-truck events on weekends. Keep your dog on-lead near the event areas when something is on. A quiet weekday gets you an unhurried lawn tasting, and it is a comfortable spot for social dogs that like a bit of room without going off-lead.

Getting there and parking

Ample flat on-site parking includes room for larger vehicles, and the drive from Adelaide takes roughly 45 to 50 minutes. The cellar door opens Friday to Sunday plus Monday, 11am to 4:30pm, and closes Tuesday to Thursday.
