Kominos Wines

Kominos Wines is a family-run, high-altitude cellar door on the New England Highway at Glen Aplin, with a relaxed reputation and reviewers regularly noting a friendly welcome for dogs.

The dog setup. Dogs are generally welcome in the outdoor lawn and garden areas around the cellar door, kept on a leash. There's no indoor dining or accommodation here, so plan on an outdoor tasting rather than bringing your dog inside. Staff are known for being attentive hosts and will often bring out water for a thirsty dog on request.

Good to know. The winery is known for its Saperavi, a deep red variety, alongside Viognier and other Granite Belt wines. Food platters with a Greek touch are served between 11am and 3.30pm, and Kominos occasionally runs "Kefi" days with Greek food and dancing, worth checking the calendar for if you're timing a visit.

Getting there and parking. The cellar door is at 27145 New England Highway, Glen Aplin, directly off the highway. Parking is ample and roomy enough for cars, caravans and coaches to turn easily.

Nearby with the dogs. Art of Krupinski, another dog-friendly, open-plan cellar door, is close by on Mount Stirling Road in Glen Aplin. Summit Estate Wines in nearby Thulimbah is also known to welcome dogs inside the venue. Girraween National Park is a short drive south, though dogs there are mostly restricted to picnic areas rather than the walking trails.

A relaxed midweek visit gets you the lawn and the owners' attention to yourselves. Good for dogs happy to settle outside on a leash while you take your time over a platter.
