Flaxman

Flaxman is a small family-owned winery on Flaxmans Valley Road in the Eden Valley end of the Barossa, run by the owners themselves and built around a single idea: sit down, taste properly, take your time. The pergola tables look over the vines, the Cabernet Sauvignon has a serious following, and the resident dog Gus is usually somewhere on the property. Tastings are intimate by design, which works in a visiting dog's favour if you book ahead.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor pergola area, which is where you want to be anyway for the vineyard views. The indoor tasting room is small, so four-legged guests stay outside on a leash and settled next to your table. Bookings matter here more than at a big cellar door because capacity is limited, so mention you are bringing a dog when you book. Water bowls are usually on hand but carry your own on hot days rather than counting on it.

Worth knowing

Beyond straight tastings, Flaxman runs paired long lunches under the pergola, and those need serious notice rather than a same-day phone call. Cellar door hours run Thursday and Friday from noon to 4pm and Saturday 11am to 5pm, with Sundays by appointment, so plan around a weekend or a Friday. Weekday sessions are the calmest option for a dog who has not done many cellar doors.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is at 662 Flaxmans Valley Road, about 10 minutes from Angaston and Tanunda. Parking is free and on site, with an accessible car park and entrance. The turnoff comes up quickly on winding country roads, so trust the GPS and keep the dog settled for the drive in.

Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park is 10 to 15 minutes away with proper walking trails if your dog needs to stretch before a tasting.
