Plume Estate

Plume Estate is a small family-run vineyard on a hilltop in the Bickley Valley, about twenty minutes from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills. The draw for dog owners is simple: well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the outdoor seating, which happens to be the best part of the property, with wide views down the valley.

The dog setup

Dogs on a lead can join you at the outdoor tables; the indoor dining room is off limits to them. Water bowls and treats are not guaranteed, so bring your own. A resident golden retriever named Willow sometimes greets guests, which is worth knowing if your dog is unsettled around other dogs.

The vibe

This is a boutique operation with a homely feel rather than a big commercial cellar door. The platters and flammkuchen are the reason people return, matched against estate pinot noir, and the hilltop position does the rest. It opens Friday to Sunday only, 11:30am to 3pm on Fridays and until 4pm on weekends.

Max: bring a bowl and stake out a table with shade, because the outdoor area is the whole ticket here and there is no moving inside when it fills.

Getting there

The estate is at 91 Glenisla Road, Bickley, up in the orchard and vineyard country of the Perth Hills, with parking on site. The outdoor area is the only dog option and it fills on weekends, so a Friday or weekend-early arrival with the dog is the safer bet.

Make a day of it

Jorgensen Park Walk Trail in Kalamunda makes a good pre-lunch leg stretch. Other cellar doors that take dogs nearby include MyattsField Vineyards and Hainault @ Carmel, and Kalamunda Hotel is the fallback if you want an indoor option later.
