Theodolite Creek Walk

The Theodolite Creek Walk is a beach walk, not a built track: you follow the Woodgate foreshore north to where Theodolite Creek meets the sea. The payoff for dog owners is that this stretch is a council off-lead area.

Leads and the off-lead zone

Bundaberg Regional Council allows dogs off lead on the foreshore seaward of the most northern house on the beach, all the way to the creek entrance. Keep dogs on lead around picnic and day-use spots.

The Theodolite Creek day-use area and the bush behind the creek sit in Burrum Coast National Park, where dogs are not allowed. Stay on the beach side.

The walk

Underfoot is white sand, then mudflats and sandbars that open up at low tide. There is no fixed length, so walk as far as the tide lets you, watching for plovers and oystercatchers on the flats.

Max: Give resting shorebirds a wide berth and call your dog in before the sandbars. They are there to feed, not to be chased.

Go at low tide for the widest sand, and bring water because there is none on the beach.
