Wilson Park(South Fremantle)

Wilson Park is a patch of open playing fields on the corner of Ocean Road and South Terrace in South Fremantle. What makes it worth the trip is that the City of Fremantle treats it as a dog exercise area, so dogs can come off lead, and South Beach is a short walk away.

Leads and the off-lead area

Dogs can run off lead across the park except when wet-weather covers are laid over the centre wickets. When the covers are on, clip the lead back on and keep the dog off the pitch.

The city has been reworking its dog exercise policy, so read the signs on arrival before you unclip.

What it's like

This is a playing-field park rather than a trail. Expect wide open turf ringed by shady trees, with paved paths around the edges, which makes it a good spot for fetch and recall practice.

Water for dogs isn't confirmed here, so bring some with you.

The obvious follow-up is the South Beach Dog Off Leash Area for a swim. For a drink afterwards, Running With Thieves is close by in South Fremantle.

When to go

Late afternoon is the pick, with the sun going down over the ocean at South Beach. After rain, look at the centre wickets first, as that is when the covers go on. It suits dogs with reliable recall best.
