Whyalla Foreshore

Whyalla's foreshore path runs along the beach and marina with the Spencer Gulf on one side, and the lead rule depends on the clock. The walk is in Whyalla itself rather than Whyalla Playford, and it has no official name beyond the foreshore track.

Lead rules by the hour

Whyalla City Council requires dogs on lead along the main foreshore, through Ada Ryan Gardens and on the beach from the jetty to Dunstone Street during set hours.

Those hours are 8am to 9pm in summer and 8am to 6pm in winter. Outside them, dogs can go off lead in those areas.

From Dunstone Street toward the mangroves, the beach is a designated off-lead stretch.

The walk

The path mixes pavement, concrete and gravel, passing the circular jetty, playgrounds and green lawns. It is an open, breezy walk with wide gulf views.

Bins sit along the foreshore and at the car park entries, and parking is close to the playground areas. Shade and drinking water are scarce on the beachfront, so carry water and a bowl.

Early mornings before 8am, or evenings once the on-lead hours end, give the most freedom and the kindest temperatures.
