Whiteman Park

Whiteman Park is a large bushland reserve in Whiteman, on the edge of Bennett Springs, with banksia woodland, seasonal wetlands and kangaroos grazing among the trees. The big drawcard for dog owners is its fenced off-lead dog park.

Leads and the off-lead area

Dogs must be on a lead across the park and its walking trails. The one exception is the fully fenced dog park of 2.5 hectares at Mussel Pool East.

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage runs the park on behalf of the Western Australian Planning Commission.

Max: Kangaroos graze among the trees here, so keep a firm hold on the lead outside the fenced area.

The walk

Paths near the village are hard-surfaced, while the conservation and bushland loops are soft, sandy tracks.

Inside the dog park

A limestone track runs more than 500 metres around the enclosure, with agility features and a separate area for dogs under 10 kilograms. There are drinking stations, bag stations, bins and shaded seating under mature trees.

Free parking sits right by the dog park gates.

Closer to home, Iluma Dog Park is a smaller neighbourhood option.

When to go

Sandy tracks heat up in summer, so go early. Small or nervous dogs will appreciate the separate small dog area.
