Werri Beach Foreshore Walk

Werri Beach has a signed stretch where dogs can run off lead and swim, and the foreshore walk along Pacific Avenue takes you right to it. There is no formally named route, just local paths, sand and grass reserves that link into the Kiama Coast Walk.

Leads and the off-lead area

Kiama Municipal Council allows dogs off lead and swimming between Miller Street and Moore Street. Enter through the marked beach tracks with blue timber fencing off Pacific Avenue.

Everywhere else, including the foreshore footpaths and reserves, dogs must be on lead. Keep at least 10 metres from playground equipment and barbecue areas, and stay away from sports fields in use and public bathing areas.

The walk

Expect a mix of beach sand, grassy reserve and concrete footpath along Pacific Avenue, with a lagoon at the northern end and green hills behind. Shade is scarce on the foreshore.

Water fountains are near the northern end by the surf club, with bins near the car parks and amenity blocks. Free parking runs along Pacific Avenue, especially near the Gerringong Surf Club and the bowling club.

Pepsi: The swim zone is the prize. Use the blue-fenced tracks and head straight for the water.

Grab a coffee at The Point Kiosk, or walk up to the Gerringong Headland dog off-leash area for another run.

Aim for early morning or late afternoon, when the sand is cooler and the open foreshore less harsh.
