Wentworth Park

Wentworth Park, on the Glebe side of the Ultimo border, is one of the few big inner-city lawns where your dog can run free. The trick is knowing which half you are in.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Sydney manages the park. Dogs can be off-leash at any time on the western side, except on the sports fields while games are on.

On the eastern side dogs must stay on-leash. They are not allowed in the children's playground or the barbecue areas at all.

Max: Check which side you are on before unclipping, and keep off the fields when a game is running.

The walk

Paved paths loop through wide, flat lawns under old Moreton Bay figs, past the sports fields and the historic racing complex. Shade comes from the big trees and the arches of the light rail viaduct.

Bubblers with dog bowls sit along the paths, bins are around the edges, and there are public toilets on site.

Getting there

Free street parking is limited near Wentworth Park Road and Mitchell Street, with paid parking off Wattle Street.

Pair it with

The Toxteth and The Glebe Hotel are both close by for a drink afterwards.

Flat lawns and big shade trees make it a good year-round city option, and the western side suits social dogs with solid recall.
