Wiradjuri Walking Track

The Wiradjuri Walking Track is Wagga Wagga's big one, a 42 kilometre loop along the Murrumbidgee and over the hills around the city. It passes close to Gumly Gumly, and dogs are welcome on a lead.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Wagga Wagga runs the track, and leads stay on everywhere except signed off-lead areas. The Wiradjuri Reserve off-lead area, further upstream, is the one to aim for.

The walk

Nobody needs to do the whole loop. Locals pick a short, manageable section, or string several together for a long day.

Near town and the river the path is paved, then it turns to dirt and gravel through bushland and reserves. You get riverbanks, wetlands full of birds and views over the city from the hilltops.

Water and shade

Big river red gums shade the riverside stretches well. There are few taps for dogs, so carry water, and bins thin out away from the trailheads.

Max: The river is right beside the track in places. Check the bank and current before you let your dog wade in.
