Upper Skeleton Creek Trail

Skeleton Creek cuts a green corridor along the edge of Williams Landing, and the walk most locals mean is the Upper Skeleton Creek Trail through neighbouring Truganina and Tarneit. Dogs are welcome, but only on lead, and they have to stay out of the creek.

Lead rules

Wyndham City Council and Melbourne Water look after the corridor. Keep the lead on along the trail and through the reserves beside it, because the only off-lead spots are separate fenced dog parks.

Council rules also keep dogs out of natural waterways. No paddling, however inviting the creek looks on a warm day.

The walk

The path is a smooth, sealed shared trail, easy on paws and fine for a pram. It threads through restored wetland and native grassland, where you may spot waterbirds, hear frogs and now and then catch an eastern long-necked turtle.

Locals join from residential streets and small reserves around Williams Landing, with street parking close by. The path is continuous, so you can make the walk as long or as short as your dog likes.

Max: There is very little shade out here and no creek swims allowed, so carry water and a bowl, and skip the middle of a hot day.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, Williams Landing Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the local choice.

In summer, go early morning or late afternoon. The flat sealed surface suits older dogs and anyone after a steady walk rather than a free run.
