Begonia Reserve Track

Begonia Reserve Track dips through Blackbutt Gully Forest between Thornleigh and Normanhurst, a short bush walk with a creek crossing and plenty of sandstone steps. Dogs come too, on a lead and on the track.

Lead rules

Hornsby Shire Council requires dogs on a lead for the whole track, since this is bushland rather than an off-leash area. Near the playgrounds along the connecting streets, keep dogs at least 10 metres from the play equipment.

The walk

Expect a natural bush track with short, steep climbs and many stone steps. The creek crossing and the sandstone get slippery after rain.

The canopy is thick the whole way, so it stays shaded. The track also works as a green link between the two suburbs and on towards Thornleigh Station.

Max: After rain, take the steps slowly and keep the lead short at the creek crossing. Wet sandstone is slippery for paws and people.

Getting started

There is no car park, so use street parking on Pine Street or Begonia Road in Normanhurst, or Butterfield Street and Hillmont Avenue in Thornleigh. There is no water on the track, so carry some for the dog.

For off-lead time, Brickpit Park Fenced Dog Park is in Thornleigh, and Myrtle Street Grind is handy for coffee in Normanhurst.

The steps make it a workout for fit dogs, while older dogs may prefer something flatter. The shade makes it a sound summer choice.
