Summerland Point Heritage Walk

Running between Gwandalan and Summerland Point, the Heritage Walk is a community trail where wooden signs name the native trees and shrubs as you pass. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Central Coast Council's rules for public pathways and foreshores apply, so dogs stay on lead for the whole walk. The nearest dedicated off-lead space is the dog exercise area at Tunkuwallin Oval.

The walk

The local Tidy Towns group, GASPPIG, supports the trail alongside council. Expect a mix of paved footpaths, quiet suburban streets and dirt fire trail sections.

The reserves along the way have large shade trees, bins and toilets, with parking near the waterfront entry points. Bring water for the dog on the longer stretches.

For more distance by Lake Macquarie, the Summerland Point Loop follows the foreshore and bush tracks. Coffee is at The Corner Cafe & Spill the Tea Hydration Bar in Mannering Park.

When to go

With so much shade it works on warmer days too. It suits a dog happy to amble while you stop to read the signs.
