Summerland Point Loop

The Summerland Point Loop circles the peninsula on Lake Macquarie's southern shore, about 5.8 kilometres of foreshore path, quiet streets and short bush sections with lake views from every side. Dogs walk it on lead.

Lead rules

Central Coast Council allows dogs on lead and under effective control on public foreshore paths and streets unless a sign says otherwise. Dogs are not allowed in children's playgrounds or protected bushland and wetland reserves.

The walk

It is rated easy and mostly level, which makes it a good loop for older dogs. Surfaces change as you go, from paved and grassed foreshore path to local streets and brief dirt tracks.

Parking is easy near the foreshore reserves and the boat ramp where the loop starts and finishes.

Water and shade

Bins and general amenities sit near the main reserves and boat ramps, but water along the loop itself is limited. Carry a bottle and a bowl.

Trees and houses shelter some sections, while the open foreshore stretches warm up in full sun.

Max: The exposed foreshore heats up fast. In summer, start early and carry more water than you think you need.
