St Peters Billabong

A bend of old river channel off Goss Court, the St Peters Billabong gives inner Adelaide a pocket of reeds, red gums and waterbirds on the edge of the River Torrens Linear Park. Dogs are welcome here, kept on a short lead along the shared paths.

Leads and the off-lead area

The billabong paths are shared with walkers and cyclists, so the lead stays on. The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters looks after the reserve.

Right next door, the LG Perriam Memorial Oval at St Peters River Park is a council off-leash area at all times, except during organised sport or council activities. That makes an easy pairing, a slow sniff around the water and then a proper run on the grass.

The walk

Formed gravel and paved paths wind past the reeds and old river red gums. Keep an eye out for purple swamphens and black swans on the water.

Big established trees throw generous shade over much of the route, and there are bins and toilets near the oval and the main path entries. Street parking is straightforward near the end of St Peters Street.

Max: The billabong water sits still and untreated, so carry a bottle and keep noses out of it.

Flat, shady and short, this suits older dogs and quick weekday outings, with the oval there for dogs that still have energy to burn.
