Soldier's Memorial Gardens

Rose beds, big old shade trees and the slow bend of the Angas River make Strathalbyn's Soldier's Memorial Gardens a gentle town-centre stroll. Alexandrina Council lists the gardens as on lead at all times, so plan for a leashed wander rather than a run.

Around the gardens

Paths are mostly bitumen and smooth concrete, flat and accessible. You walk past manicured lawns and the riverbank, with historic crossings such as the Children's Bridge along the way.

The gardens are also a starting point for the flat riverside trails that follow the Angas through town, so it is easy to stretch the outing.

What's on hand

Bins are spread through the gardens and picnic areas, and there are public toilets, including accessible ones, in and beside the grounds. Street parking and accessible bays sit next to the gardens and the main shopping strip.

No dog water point is listed, so bring a bottle and a bowl.

When to go

The shade trees make this a fair choice on a warm day. Seating and picnic lawns suit a slow walk with an older dog, or a lunch stop on a drive through the Fleurieu.
