What visitors mention
Scarlett Sand Banks is the tidal sandbank area off Lamberts Beach in Slade Point, a wide stretch of exposed sand at low tide that locals use for a run and a paddle with the dog. Reviewers mention sandbars, turtles and watching the tide, so time your visit around the tide chart rather than the clock.
The rules. Mackay Regional Council requires dogs to be under effective voice control at all times, and the sandbank itself is unfenced, so this suits a dog that reliably comes back when called. Bring your own waste bags and pick up after your dog, since supply at the access points is not guaranteed. Keep clear of any signed shorebird nesting areas.
The water and terrain. The banks are only fully exposed at low tide, so check a tide chart before heading down. There is little shade, so a summer visit is best done early to avoid hot sand underfoot.
Getting there. Park on the street near the end of Swallow Street or around Lamberts Beach, and walk in from there. The nearest fenced water point is at the Wren Street off-leash park nearby, so bring your own water bowl for the sandbank itself.

Best at low tide on a weekday morning, when the banks are exposed and the sand hasn't heated up. Discovery Parks - Mackay is a dog-friendly stay a short drive away if you want to make a weekend of it.
