Shearwater Park

Shearwater Park is a small, flat loop off Shearwater Esplanade, dotted with community mosaic art. Dogs walk it on lead, and it links up with the foreshore paths toward Freers Beach.

Lead rules

Latrobe Council's standard rule for general reserves applies here, so keep dogs on a lead. The playground and outdoor gym equipment draw families, which is another reason to keep them close.

The walk

The short paved track loops through the park past the mosaics, the playground, the fitness gear and a shaded picnic shelter. It is easy going for any dog.

There is no dog water point on the loop, so bring a bottle and bowl. Parking is right beside the park and esplanade.

Extend it to the beach

The park connects to the coastal paths along the Shearwater and Port Sorell foreshore, within walking distance of Freers Beach. There, dogs must be on lead from 10 am to 7 pm during daylight saving, and can be off lead under effective control at other times outside the restricted areas.

Max: Freers Beach rules change with daylight saving. Check the signs before you let the lead go.

Rocky Gardens Cafe is close for a coffee, and the Panatana Rivulet Footbridge walk is nearby in Port Sorell.

When to go

The park loop works any time. In summer, plan beach time for early morning or evening, when the off-lead hours apply.
