Devonport Dog Park

Devonport Dog Park at 260 Steele Street is a purpose-built, fully fenced off-leash exercise area next to the Splash Devonport Aquatic Centre car park. The secure perimeter and agility equipment make it the safest spot in the city for a proper off-leash run and some socialising, whatever your dog's size.

The dog setup

Devonport City Council's rules for the Steele Street facility are stricter than most: dogs must be registered, microchipped and vaccinated, and desexed unless you hold a permit, while declared dangerous, menacing or restricted breeds are not permitted. Keep your dog on-leash through the entry transition and only unleash once safely inside the fence, then maintain continuous effective control and carry a physical leash. Waste goes straight into the designated bins. Secure perimeter fencing encloses the whole area, with agility equipment on site for training and play. It is a straightforward, well-set-up enclosure rather than sprawling parkland.

Max: if your dog is new to the park, come in a quiet window and let them settle before the busy crowd arrives. Weekday afternoons and weekend mid-mornings fill up fast.

The vibe

Quietest on weekday mornings and around midday; late afternoons until dark and weekend mornings after 9:30 are the busiest. The council itself recommends non-peak hours for first-time or nervous dogs. The regular crowd is friendly and the agility gear gives the park more purpose than a plain lawn, which is why it holds a strong local following.

Getting there and parking

Drive to 260 Steele Street near the aquatic centre, with free parking in the paved Splash car park right alongside. Local bus routes run along Steele Street and Tamar Street, leaving a short walk to the gate, so the park is reachable without a car despite its edge-of-CBD location.

Close by with the dogs

Central Devonport is a few minutes away, with pet-friendly cafes offering outdoor seating around Rooke Street and along the Mersey River foreshore, and the Latrobe Fenced Dog Park is a short drive south if you want to stack a second fenced run onto the trip.
