Sawmillers Reserve Walk

Sawmillers Reserve curls around the edge of Berrys Bay at McMahons Point, and its best feature sits in the water, the ribs of an old timber shipwreck. North Sydney Council lists it as an off-leash area, so dogs can explore the foreshore freely.

The walk

The route winds over timber boardwalks, wooden stairs and decks, then onto grass and compacted dirt along the water. Relics of the old Eaton's timber yard sit alongside the path.

A small, sheltered sandy beach lets dogs have a splash in the bay. Mature trees and native plantings on the slopes give good pockets of shade.

Water and bins

There is a public tap and bubbler on site, plus bins, and council usually stocks dog bags.

Getting there

Parking is the catch. Street spaces around Munro Street, French Street and West Crescent are very limited and hard to find at peak times.

The North Spoon is the local cafe stop in McMahons Point, or head up to the Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney.

Stairs and boardwalks make Sawmillers better for agile dogs than for seniors. Arrive early on weekends if you need a park, and bring a towel for the beach.
