Greenwood Hotel

Greenwood Hotel is a big multi-level pub set in a former 1878 sandstone schoolhouse on Blue Street, directly across from North Sydney station. The drawcard for dog owners is the northern courtyard, a proper outdoor room rather than a couple of footpath tables, with the dog-friendly window generally running Monday to Friday.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the northern courtyard on lead, with water bowls out and cheap pig's ears sold at the bar as a treat. Indoor areas are not dog territory here, and the dog-friendly arrangement can vary on weekends, so confirm before planning a Saturday or Sunday visit around it.

Max: a big weekday lunch crowd in a courtyard means plenty of dropped chips and unfamiliar dogs close together. Keep a short leash if yours gets territorial over food.

The vibe

The historic schoolhouse building and the sheer scale of the courtyard make this a fixture for the North Sydney CBD crowd, so expect busy and social rather than quiet. Schnitzels and two-for-one pizza deals feed the after-work shift, and it fills fast once offices knock off.

Getting there and parking

Hours run 12pm to 10pm Monday to Saturday, with the pub closed Sundays. Train is the easy option given the station is right across the street. There is no on-site parking; the realistic choices are metered street parking on Blue and Miller Streets or the paid stations around Elizabeth Plaza.
