Greenwood Hotel is a big multi-level pub in a former 1878 schoolhouse on Blue Street, and the drawcard for dog owners is the northern courtyard, a proper outdoor space rather than a couple of footpath tables.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the northern courtyard, with the dog-friendly window generally running Monday to Friday, so confirm on a weekend before you plan a visit around it. Water bowls are out for thirsty dogs and the venue sells three dollar pig's ears as a treat. Leash your dog at all times, indoor areas are not dog territory here.

Getting there. Directly across from North Sydney railway station, so train is the easy option. There is no on-site parking, nearest choices are metered street parking on Blue Street and Miller Street or paid parking such as Wilson Parking on Elizabeth Plaza.

Nearby with the dogs. St Leonards Park is a short walk up Miller Street for a proper run-around, Bradfield Park closer to the bridge has grass and harbour views, and Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden in Lavender Bay is a scenic fifteen minute walk for an on-leash wander.

When to go: aim for a weekday lunch or early after-work drink when the courtyard dog policy is confirmed running, and expect it to fill up fast once the CBD knocks off.
