Sanctuary Point Foreshore Path

St Georges Basin sits at your elbow the whole way along the Sanctuary Point Foreshore Path, a flat, easy waterside walk that locals also call the Basin foreshore walk. Dogs are welcome, but only on a lead.

Lead rules

Shoalhaven City Council treats the path and the foreshore reserves it links as on-lead ground. Keep the lead clipped on for the full length.

The walk

The surface changes as you go, from concrete shared path to compacted gravel, boardwalk and plain dirt track. Open water views alternate with coastal bush and canopy, so there is some shade along the way.

Expect birdlife, small sandy pockets at the water's edge and quiet sunrise light over the Basin. It is rated easy and mostly flat, which makes it kind on older dogs.

Getting started

Parking and turnaround areas sit at the main entry points, and the larger reserves along the way, such as Palm Beach Reserve, have bins. Dog bowls are scarce along the track, so carry water and a travel bowl.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, Clifton Park Fenced Dog Park is the suburb's fenced option, and the Sanctuary Point Oval Loop adds another short lap.

Go early or late for the calmest water and the softest light. The flat ground and manageable length suit older dogs and anyone after a gentle daily walk.
