Sanctuary Point Oval Loop

Sanctuary Point Oval on Larmer Avenue has no signposted trail, but locals have long used its perimeter and athletics track for an easy lap with the dog. It is a Shoalhaven City Council sportsground, and dogs stay on lead here.

The loop

Expect grass and the edges of the track rather than a sealed path. The circuit takes in the open playing fields and the cricket pitch, with the sports club buildings and local trees around the outside.

Shade is patchy. Mature trees near the edges help, but the middle of the oval is wide open.

Water, bins and parking

Council bins and parking sit beside the grounds on Larmer Avenue. The closest water for dogs is at the fenced dog park next door, which has refill bowls.

Pair it with

Finish with a run in the Clifton Park Fenced Dog Park, which has double gates, seating and agility gear. Locals warn it gets muddy after heavy rain.

Go early or late in warm weather, since the open centre offers little cover. The flat, open layout suits dogs practising lead manners and owners after a no-fuss lap before an off-lead play.
