Rosanna Parklands

River red gums, open grassy woodland and a creek with shallow splash spots make Rosanna Parklands a local favourite with dog owners. It is a mixed reserve, off-lead across the open parkland and on lead along the paths.

Leads and the off-lead area

Banyule City Council lets dogs off lead in the general parkland, provided they are under effective control. On the shared paved paths, and within 5 metres of them, the lead goes back on.

Playgrounds and public barbecue areas are off-limits. The rules here have been a local talking point, so read the signs at the entrance before you unclip.

The walk

Gravel and dirt tracks mix with paved sections across the 25-hectare reserve, so you can pick a short loop or a longer circuit. Birdlife gathers around the wetland pockets, and the creek gives dogs a place to cool off.

Some bubblers exist but they are basic, so pack a bowl. Bins are spread through the reserve.

Free street parking is nearby off Ruthven Street and Lower Plenty Road, though it fills at busy weekend times.

When to go

Weekdays make parking easier. Shade is patchy over the open grass, so on hot days go early, and save the off-lead time for dogs with solid recall.
