Rocky Gully Wetlands

Off Mannum Road just outside the Murray Bridge town centre, Rocky Gully Wetlands is a flat, smooth loop past lakes and islands full of native birds. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and the easy surface suits almost any dog.

Lead rules

The Rural City of Murray Bridge requires dogs on a lead no longer than 2 metres in public places. The wetlands are not an off-leash area.

The walk

The Sanders Loop is an easy, flat walk of roughly 1.8 kilometres return, taking around 20 to 30 minutes. The path is smooth and level enough for prams and wheelchairs.

It forms part of the wider Lavender Federation Trail, so you can keep going if the dog still has energy. An entrance shelter has a picnic table, and benches sit along the path.

Water and shade

Much of the loop is exposed to the sun, with only scattered trees. Bring water and a bowl, and carry out your bags, as bins on the loop are limited.

Max: The open path gives little relief on a hot afternoon. Go early, and keep the lead short near the water where the birds gather.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, try Johnstone Park Fenced Dog Park, then stop at St George's Bakehouse - Murray Bridge.

Cooler months and early mornings suit it best. It is a good pick for older dogs and anyone walking with a pram.
