Rocky Bay Heritage Trail

Limestone cliffs above the Swan River, signs telling Noongar and colonial history, and a river beach where dogs can run: Rocky Bay Heritage Trail packs a lot into a North Fremantle walk.

Leads and the off-lead area

Under the City of Fremantle's dog exercise policy, Rocky Bay Reserve and Rocky Bay Beach, opposite the Rule Street car park, are dog exercise areas where dogs can be off lead. On the other paths and foreshore sections, keep them on lead.

The walk

The route mixes paved paths and parkland walkways with rougher, unpaved ground and limestone near the cliff edges. The views across the river are the reason to come.

Max: Keep the lead on and short near the cliff edges, where the limestone underfoot is uneven.

Down at the beach, the sandy shore and calm river water make for an easy swim after the cliff-top section.

Getting started

Parking near Rule Street is the usual starting point, with bins around the car parks and park entries. Bring your own bags.

When to go

Water-loving dogs get the most out of it, with a cliff walk and a river swim in one outing. Bring water for the dog.
