Burns Bay Reserve Path

Burns Bay Reserve sits on the Lane Cove River foreshore in Riverview, next door to Lane Cove North. Its mix of open playing fields and bushland tracks lets a dog run and walk in one outing.

Leads and the off-lead area

Lane Cove Council allows dogs off leash on the open playing fields, but only when organised games are not on. Along the bushland tracks and paths, dogs must be leashed.

Dogs are banned within 10 metres of children's play equipment.

The walk

Near the reserve's facilities the ground is concrete and grass. Out along the bay, tracks turn to narrow dirt, rock and uneven stone steps.

You pass mangrove-fringed water, moored boats and native bushland, and paved sections follow the Tannery Creek wetlands and seawall. Bubblers are in the adjoining reserves.

Max: Check the fields before you unclip. If a game is on, the lead stays on.

It suits steady-footed dogs, as the bay tracks are rough underfoot. Older dogs may prefer to stay on the fields and flat paths.
