Ray Bastin Reserve

Locals call it Rocket Park. Ray Bastin Reserve spreads across about 4.5 hectares of lawn, shady picnic spots and paved paths off Norfolk Drive, and it is strictly an on-lead park.

Lead rules

The City of Casey requires dogs on a lead at all times here, as the reserve is not an off-leash area. Council rules also keep dogs at least 20 metres from playgrounds and play equipment, which matters in a park this popular with families.

The walk

Concrete paths circle the open lawns, pass the skate park and BMX track, and link out to the Hallam Valley Trail if you want to keep going. A small patch of bush adds a bit of variety.

There is a drinking tap near the main picnic and playground area, bins around the pavilion and entries, plus toilets and barbecues. Mature trees shade the picnic tables, while the open play areas get the full sun.

Smooth paths and flat ground make it a comfortable walk for older dogs, and the linked trail gives younger ones somewhere to keep going.
