Purry Burry Point

Purry Burry Point pokes out into Lake Illawarra at Primbee, with a 120 metre timber jetty, wide lake views and a short patch of bush. It is usually far quieter than the big beaches, which makes it a good pick for reactive dogs.

Lead rules

Wollongong City Council manages the reserve. Dogs are allowed on a lead on the paths and around the point, as in most public reserves on the lake foreshore unless a sign says otherwise.

The walk

The ground is flat, a mix of concrete footpath, level grass and hard-packed earth. Birdlife is part of the show along the water.

There is little shade near the point and the jetty, and the wind comes straight off the lake. Bring water and a bowl for the dog.

Getting started

Park near Purry Burry Avenue or Bundah Place, close to the waterfront. Bins are limited to the access points, so take your own bags.

Pair it with

Windang Dog Beach is the place for an off-lead run, and The Rosy Lea Cafe is close for a coffee.

When to go

With so little shade, cooler mornings and evenings are best in summer. Flat and calm, it suits older dogs and nervous ones.
