The Rosy Lea Cafe

The Rosy Lea Cafe is a small, community-minded cafe on Illowra Crescent in Primbee, a pocket suburb on the Lake Illawarra foreshore between Windang and Warrawong. It does a friendly breakfast and lunch trade with a cake cabinet that does the talking: handmade cakes and vanilla slice are the drawcard, alongside a solid egg and bacon roll. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which makes it an easy stop on a lakeside walk.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor seating area, on lead and under control, while indoors stays people-only. Staff have a habit of bringing a water bowl out for visiting dogs, so your own travel bowl is backup rather than essential. The room is small and much of the trade is takeaway, so a settled dog does best at one of the outdoor tables rather than in the queue.

The vibe

This is a proper local: reviews lean on the friendly staff, the burgers, and the sweets rather than anything fancy, and the handmade crafts around the room give it a village feel. Hours run Tuesday to Saturday from 7am to 2pm, Sundays 8am to 1pm, with Mondays off. Outside the weekend breakfast rush you will have the outdoor tables mostly to yourself.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 45a Illowra Crescent, Primbee. Street parking along the crescent is generally easy, no circling required. It is a short drive or a decent walk from Windang Bridge and the lake's southern foreshore paths.

Close by with the dogs

Purry Burry Reserve and the Lake Illawarra foreshore are close for an easy stretch of the legs, and Windang Dog Beach is the off-leash sand option just over the bridge. If the outdoor tables are full, Passionate Palate at Kanahooka is the next dog-friendly cafe on the lake's southern side.
