Primbee Shared Path

Flat, sealed and right on the water, the Primbee Shared Path follows the Lake Illawarra foreshore with open views out toward the old Purry Burry Jetty. It is a plain on-lead walk, and that is its appeal.

Lead rules

Wollongong City Council allows dogs on its shared paths on a short lead, kept to the left and under effective control. Cyclists use the path too.

For a run, Perkins Beach in Primbee is a signed off-lead beach. Dogs stay on lead on the access paths leading to it.

Water and shade

Shade is patchy. Much of the path is open lakeside with little canopy, broken up by mature trees near the parks.

Bins sit at the main access points and reserves, but water for dogs is scarce, so bring a bottle and a bowl. Park on nearby streets or at the car parks by the sports fields and foreshore reserves.

Make a day of it

The Rosy Lea Cafe in Primbee makes an easy coffee stop, and Windang Dog Beach is nearby for a swim.

When to go

Go early or late in summer, before the open stretches heat up. Being flat and sealed, it suits older dogs and anyone after a steady fitness walk.
