Pokolbin Park

Pokolbin Park, on the corner of McDonalds Road and De Beyers Road, is a neat public reserve in the middle of Hunter Valley wine country. It is the spot to give the dog a leg stretch between cellar doors, with open vineyard views all around.

Lead rules

Cessnock City Council allows dogs in the park on lead. It is not a designated off-lead area, so keep the lead on the whole time.

The walk

Formed paths run alongside the grass and open reserve. It is a short stroll rather than a long walk, with sweeping views over the surrounding vines.

There is a car park right beside the park, public toilets, park benches, picnic tables and free electric barbecues. Bins are on hand too.

When to go

It suits a quick break on a winery day, or a relaxed lunch with the dog on lead beside you. On a hot Hunter afternoon, go early or late, and bring water for the dog.

For a proper off-lead run, the council has dedicated areas in nearby towns such as Cessnock.
