Oonoonba Park

Oonoonba Park on Shannon Street is Oonoonba's local green, a tidy stretch of lawn with paths, a shaded playground and fitness gear. It is an easy on-lead leg stretch without driving across Townsville.

Lead rules

Townsville City Council requires dogs on a lead here. The park is not a designated off-lead area, fenced or otherwise.

The walk

Concrete paths join the open lawns to the playground, the fitness stations and a half basketball court. It is a short, flat circuit rather than a long trail.

The playground has a large shade structure, but much of the rest is open to the sun.

Water and parking

There is no dog water on the loop, so carry a bowl and bottle. Bins are around the park, and you can park on site or in the street beside the Oonoonba Community Centre.

Make a day of it

For off-lead time, try the National Park Fenced Dog Park. Coffee is at Little Brick Road Espresso.

When to go

Go early or late in the day to dodge the North Queensland sun on the open lawns. It suits a routine neighbourhood walk more than a big outing.
