Flat Rock Gully Walking Track is a roughly 4 km bushland loop linking Tunks Park and Hallstrom Park in Northbridge, on Sydney's lower North Shore. It follows Flat Rock Creek through gum forest with a small waterfall along the way, a solid mid-length option if your dog needs more than a lap of the local park.

The rules. Dogs must stay on-leash for the full length of the track. The gully is a mapped wildlife protection area, home to bandicoots and echidnas, so leash compliance is actively encouraged by Willoughby Council, not just a formality. Stick to the formed track rather than cutting through the bush.

Terrain. Natural surface throughout, with several creek crossings that can turn slippery or, after sustained rain, impassable. Expect some uneven footing and roots. Not a track for a dog with sore paws or an owner in thongs.

What's there. No taps or bins directly on the track itself. Toilets, picnic tables and BBQs are at Tunks Park and Hallstrom Park at either end, so plan water for the walk and top up before or after.

Getting there. Free parking at the Tunks Park carpark or on Small Street, Willoughby, near the Incinerator Cafe. Both are common trailheads. Sydney Buses serve Willoughby Road and the Northbridge area if you're walking in.

Creek crossings get greasy after rain. If it's been wet, bring a lead you don't mind getting muddy and expect a slower pace than the distance suggests.

Nearby with the dogs. The Incinerator Cafe on Small Street has dog-friendly outdoor seating right near the trailhead, a natural stop after the loop.

Weekend mornings from about 10am to 1pm are the busiest window; weekday mornings or mid-week afternoons are quieter. Good for a dog that wants a proper bush walk rather than a flat stroll, just budget extra time if the creek crossings are running.
