Nords Wharf Oval Loop

The old Nords Wharf Oval on Crangan Bay Road has been turned into a leash-free area that never closes. For a quiet village on Lake Macquarie, that makes it the easiest place to let a dog stretch out.

Off-lead rules

Lake Macquarie City Council lists the oval as off-leash at all times, day or night. Your dog still needs to be under your effective control.

The loop

This is a lap of a grassed former sports oval rather than a formed path. Bushland and quiet streets wrap around the edges.

The flat, open layout means you can see your dog from anywhere on the field. It is ideal for fetch, recall practice and dogs that like room to move.

Water and shade

Trees around the perimeter give some shade, but the middle is in full sun. Dog water on the field is limited, so bring a bowl.

Bins are around the reserve, toilets are in the wider precinct, and parking is off Crangan Bay Road.

Make a day of it

Head down the road for lunch at the Catho Pub, or add the Summerland Point Loop.

It is uncrowded compared with the bigger regional dog parks, so it suits dogs who find busy parks too much.
