Fly Point Park

There is no signed track called the Fly Point Aquatic Reserve Walk. What you will find is Fly Point Park and the neighbouring parkland on Victoria Parade in Nelson Bay, with paved paths, lawns and wide views over Port Stephens.

Leads and no-go zones

Dogs must be on lead on the paths and foreshore parkland, which Port Stephens Council manages.

They are not allowed on the beach or in the water of the aquatic reserve sanctuary zone, which falls under the marine park rules. Keep to the grass and the paths.

The walk

Concrete paths cross grassy parkland, with timber and concrete stairs dropping down from Victoria Parade. Big trees give good pockets of shade, and the paths link to the foreshore toward the marina.

Bins are spread through the park and near the picnic and barbecue areas. There are taps around the facilities, but bring a bowl, and expect paid parking along Victoria Parade.

Max: The sand below looks inviting, but the sanctuary is off limits to dogs. Stay on the path.

Make a day of it

For a proper run and a paddle, Bagnalls Beach Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area has calm bay water and off-lead access.

When to go

The shade makes it a comfortable harbour stroll on warm days. It suits dogs that are happy to walk calmly on lead past picnickers and divers.
