The Gary Evans Walkway is a flat, paved path that follows Petrie Creek through the middle of Nambour, running between Petrie Park Road and Carter Road. It is 1.3km one way (2.6km return), largely shaded, and easy enough for any dog and any fitness level.
The walk. Sealed and level the whole way, so it suits older dogs, short legs and prams alike. Allow roughly 20 to 30 minutes each way at a stroll. The route takes in creek views, grassy stretches and sun-basking water dragons.
Leash status. Keep your dog on-lead along the walkway itself. There is a large dedicated off-leash area on the sporting field at the Petrie Park Road end, where dogs must still be under effective voice control. Some reports mention loose or uncontrolled dogs in the wider park, so keep yours in sight and close.
Water and facilities. The path has public toilets, plenty of seating, shaded picnic spots and outdoor gym equipment. The creek runs alongside, but bring your own water bowl rather than relying on it.
Hazards. Water dragons are common along the banks and can set a dog off. There are occasional creek-side campsites, and the trail is best avoided after dark.
Getting there. The main access and car park is on the corner of Petrie Park Road and Price Street. It is a short distance from Nambour train station and the town-centre bus stops, so walking in works too.
Nearby with the dogs. Banksia Espresso in the town centre welcomes dogs at its footpath tables for a coffee afterwards. For a quieter start, weekday mornings are the pick; weekends and sunny afternoons draw families, walkers and the off-leash crowd.
