Muller's Lagoon Park Loop

Right in the centre of Bowen, the loop around Muller's Lagoon takes you past a 23-hectare wetland that draws more than 176 species of birds. It is flat, about 2.1 kilometres, and strictly on lead.

Lead rules

Whitsunday Regional Council does not list the lagoon as an off-lead area. Dogs are welcome, but keep them on a lead and under control the whole way round.

The loop

The track mixes gravel stretches with wide concrete path, and council has been upgrading sections. It stays flat throughout, so it is an easy morning or afternoon circuit for most dogs.

Mature shade trees line parts of the route. Dog bubblers are scarce and bins thin out along the loop, so carry water and bags.

Max: With this much birdlife around the water, keep the lead short and don't let your dog wade in after the waterbirds.

For an off-lead run afterwards, head to the Bowen dog off-leash beach.

Park around the edges, near Brisbane Street or Hillview Road. Go early, when the birds are busiest and the heat is lowest.
