Mudgee Common

Mudgee Common is a big reserve of open grassy woodland on the edge of town, off Common Road, crossed by dirt tracks and management trails. Dogs are allowed on a lead and under effective control at all times.

Lead rules

Mid-Western Regional Council manages the Common as Crown land and requires dogs to be leashed. It is an environmentally sensitive area, and patrols keep an eye out for dogs wandering off lead.

The walk

Tracks are unsealed, from wide vehicle trails to narrow singletrack, over undulating country beside Avisford Nature Reserve. Mountain bikers share the trails, so keep your dog close on the narrow sections.

Mature native trees shade much of the network. There is no water on the tracks, so bring your own, and pack bags since dispensers are sparse.

Bins and informal parking sit near the main entries and along the edge of the reserve.

It suits dogs that like natural ground underfoot and owners after a longer, quieter outing than a town footpath.
