Lawson Park

Lawson Park runs along the Cudgegong River in Mudgee, and its paths double as the Mudgee Sculpture Walk. It is a pleasant riverside stroll, and strictly on-lead: council has publicly reminded owners that it is not an off-lead park.

Lead rules

Mid-Western Regional Council requires dogs on a lead and under effective control at all times in Lawson Park. For off-lead play, the council's fenced Jennie Blackman Dog Park is at the Glen Willow Regional Sporting Complex.

The walk

Concrete shared paths, recently upgraded from old bitumen, lead past a string of contemporary sculptures with the river and shaded parkland behind them. Playgrounds and picnic areas keep things lively.

There are bubblers in the park precinct and bins throughout, plus established trees and built shade. Carry a bowl if you plan a longer walk along the river.

Getting started

The park is on Short Street, with parking off the neighbouring streets and near the Mudgee Swimming Pool.

Smooth paths make it easy going for older dogs. Mornings and evenings are the pick in the heat of a Mudgee summer.
