Mt Lockyer Bike Path

Mt Lockyer Bike Path is a sealed shared path threading through the Albany suburb of Lockyer, and dogs are welcome on it as long as they stay on lead. It is a practical neighbourhood walk, not a bush track.

Lead rules

The City of Albany manages the path, and its local laws require dogs to be on a leash on shared paths and streets. Cyclists and school families use it too, so keep the lead short near crossings.

The walk

The concrete and bitumen path links residential streets such as Clifton, Banks, Lambert and Menzies Streets with local green spaces, Mount Lockyer Primary School and Lake Weerlara.

Street trees and gardens give patchy shade, but some stretches are open. The sealed surface stays clean through Albany's wet winters, which makes it a handy mud-free option.

Getting started

Street parking is easiest around the community facilities near the school, including McKeown Avenue and Townsend Street. Bins and bubblers are sparse along the path itself, so carry water and bags.

Make a day of it

For a run without the lead, Centennial Park Dog Exercise Area is the local option. Albany Art Cafe and Workshops is also close by.

When to go

Avoid school drop-off and pick-up times, when the path is busiest. Flat and sealed, it suits older dogs and anyone after a steady, predictable walk.
