Sanctum Park

Sanctum Park in Mount Low gives Townsville's northern suburbs two things in one outing: paved paths for an on-lead stroll and fenced enclosures where dogs can run free.

Leads and the off-lead area

Townsville City Council asks for dogs on lead along the connecting paths, the lawns and all of Sanctum Park South. The off-lead space is in Sanctum Park North, split into a general enclosure and a separate one for small dogs.

Keep the lead on until the gate is shut behind you.

The walk

Concrete walkways link the north and south sections along Sanctum Boulevard, passing shaded lawns, fitness stations and a truck-shaped playground. It is a short neighbourhood walk rather than a long loop.

Shade sails and shelters help in the tropical heat, and bins sit along the paths. Water points are inside the dog enclosures.

The fenced yards have their own page at Sanctum Dog Park, and Sticks & Grinds Cafe in Deeragun is handy for a coffee afterwards.

Go early or late in the day when the paving is cool. The small-dog yard makes this a good pick for little or nervous dogs.
