Sanctum Dog Park is a fully fenced, purpose-built off-leash park in the Sanctum Estate development in Mount Low, open 24 hours a day. Two separate enclosures split large dogs from small or timid ones, which makes it one of the more genuinely useful off-leash setups on Townsville's northern fringe.

The rules. Dogs run off-leash only inside the fenced enclosures, not in the surrounding parkland. Owners need to stay with their dogs and keep voice control at all times. Poop bags are usually stocked on-site, but bring your own as a backup. Close both sets of gates behind you, the double-gate entry is there to stop escapes while another dog is coming through. Any dog showing aggression should be leashed and removed straight away.

What's there. Shaded, sheltered seating for owners, water stations for the dogs, and enough lighting to make early or late visits workable. The park sits alongside walking trails and playgrounds through the wider Sanctum Estate, so it is easy to turn a stop here into a longer walk.

Getting there. The park is on Sanctum Boulevard, Mount Low, about 20 to 25 minutes' drive north of Townsville city centre. There is accessible parking nearby. Public transport in this pocket of the northern suburbs is thin, so driving is the practical option.

Check both gates before you let your dog off the lead. The double-gate entry only works if the first one is shut before the second opens.

Nearby with the dogs. For coffee afterwards, Sticks & Grinds Cafe in Deeragun is the closest dog-friendly option. If you're staying over, BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Townsville in Deeragun takes dogs, confirm current pet terms at booking.

Midweek mornings and late afternoons are the quietest times to visit; the park sees more traffic on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings. Good for owners who want a genuinely fenced, off-leash run without a drive into central Townsville.
