Bluewater Caravan Park

Bluewater Caravan Park is a 55-acre bushland stopover on the Bruce Highway about 20 minutes north of Townsville, and it takes dogs seriously for a highway park. There is a dedicated off-leash area inside the grounds, which is the detail that sets it apart from most overnight stops.

Dogs are welcome on powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites, and the off-leash area gives them a proper stretch after a day in the car or van. Elsewhere in the park they stay on lead and under supervision, and should not be left unattended.

Cabins and studio rooms are pet-friendly subject to approval, so mention your dog when you book rather than assuming, and keep in mind the pet policy is aimed mainly at campers and caravanners. Pet fees are not published, so confirm the cost with the park directly. Facilities include a camp kitchen, fire pit, pool and laundry, though none of it is dog-specific, so pack your own bowls and bedding.

The park sits in native bushland with large, grassy sites, including drive-through spots that suit big rigs. Reviews regularly point to the spacious sites and clean amenities as the draw. Book ahead in the dry season from April to October, when the highway gets busy with travellers heading north.

The park is on the Bruce Highway at Bluewater, with easy highway access and generous parking for caravans and RVs. Townsville's CBD is roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive south.
