Bluewater Park Camping Rest Area

Bluewater Park Camping Rest Area is a free, 48-hour roadside stop right on the Bruce Highway at Bluewater, a shady oval with room for caravans, campervans and tents and no booking fee to worry about.

The rules. Dogs are welcome but must stay leashed at all times, and owners need to pick up after them straight away. Rangers patrol the site to check the 48-hour limit, so this is a stopover, not a base camp.

What's there. Toilets, a dump point, drinking water and picnic tables, plus a big oval that gives dogs plenty of room to stretch their legs after a long highway leg. There's no dog wash or fenced yard, so bring your own water bowl.

Getting there. It sits right off the Bruce Highway about 25 kilometres north of Townsville, with easy paved access and room for big rigs. No public transport runs out this far, it's a driving stop.

When to go. Best used as an overnight break on the drive north or south rather than a long stay. If you want more than a paddock and a picnic table, Townsville's dog-friendly parks and beaches are a short drive south.
