Chambers Island Walk

Chambers Island sits in the Maroochy River estuary at Maroochydore, reached on foot across a pedestrian bridge off Bradman Avenue. A flat 1.3 km loop takes in river views, small sandy beaches and mangroves, with dogs on lead the whole way.

Lead rules

Sunshine Coast Council requires dogs to stay on a leash at all times in its park and walkway areas. That covers the bridge crossing and the island's picnic areas.

The walk

The loop mixes flat concrete path with compacted sand tracks. Mature trees shade parts of the grassed areas, and the mangroves shelter shorebirds and marine life.

At low tide, sandy edges open up around the island, and dogs can walk the water's edge and paddle in the shallows while still on lead.

Getting started

There is plenty of parking near the footbridge on Bradman Avenue. Toilets and bins are on the island near the picnic areas, but drinking taps are limited, so carry water and a bowl.

When to go

Low tide gives you the most sand to explore. The short, flat loop suits older dogs, puppies and anyone after a quick outing close to town.
