Lucas Central Park

Lucas Central Park is the green heart of the new Lucas estate on Ballarat's western edge, where Lucas meets Cardigan. It links straight into paved paths around ponds and wetlands, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

The City of Ballarat manages the park. Dogs must be kept on a lead in the park, along the wetland reserves and near the play spaces.

The walk

Paths are mostly sealed concrete and asphalt, with some compacted fine gravel. From the central park they weave around the wetland ponds, past waterbirds, and on toward the Lucas Sanctuary.

On-street parking, including accessible bays, is on Eleanor Drive near the playground entrances.

Water and shade

Bins sit around the picnic area, the undercover barbecue shelter and the playground. Shade is still growing as the plantings mature, so bring water and a bowl for the longer wetland loops.

Make a day of it

Arch View Cafe in Alfredton makes an easy coffee stop, and Victoria Park - dog park in Newington has room for an off-lead run.

When to go

Smooth, sealed paths suit older dogs and prams alike. With young trees and little shade so far, go early on warm days.
